Littlest Dock

He'd been using the dock near the hat store and felt certain nobody would notice. He often heard the words of his former lover echoing in his head, mostly because he recorded their last conversation and had uploaded it to his iPod. "Chet, ye a nice guy," she would say on repeated plays, "but ye have the littlest dock I've ever seen."

When he bought the dock ten years ago, it seemed like a good idea - not to mention affordable. Chet spent his days wiping the dampness off his dock and occasionally polishing it with pride. He would wave all boats in to use his dock, with the exception of dinghies. Few boats would sidle up to his dock; most would leave after a few minutes of close inspection. "What do ye think I am?" various pirates would snap. "A dock sucker?" The boats would zoom off, jerking Chet's dock off its mooring.

A decade later, Chet still doted over his dock, sometimes three times a day. Finally, the owner of the hat store, a charming dwarf woman with wide hips, came over to find Chet crying. "Why ye cryin'?" she asked. "No one likes my dock!" whimpered Chet.

"Ach, it's not se bad," the woman said. "In fact, from my point of view, it's quite a sizable dock." She patted him on the knee. "You know, it's not the size of a man's dock, it's what he can do with it."

"Would you like to play on my dock?" asked Chet hopefully.

"Sure," she replied. "But first, put this hat on it."
